26" to 65Ob Conversion

I've read a fair amount about converting old road frames to 65Ob wheels with the aid of long reach caliper brakes, but I never heard of going from 26" to 65Ob. Take a look at the Velo Orange blog, where they have a post about the process. This creates a lot of potential for all those old chomoly mountain bike frames that you see all over bike co-ops...

Who We Are

The Evergreen Bike Shop is a student led community run do-it-yourself bike shop that is open to the entire Olympia area. Our goal is to provide various resources to the community in order to promote cycling as an active lifestyle as well as educate people regarding alternative transportation issues. The shop tries to provide an alternative to the often prohibitive nature of bike repair and culture both in financial cost and accessibility. By maintaining a free learning environment where anyone, student or not, can develop skills of bike self reliance, the shop encourages a developing ethic of environmental and social consciousness.

Resources We Provide

Volunteer Staffing: Volunteers keep the shop open for 2 hour shifts. Though many volunteers have a background in bicycle maintenance, knowing how to work on bikes is not a requirement of the shop. If additional help is needed, it is a good idea to call the shop in advance and ask the volunteer what they are comfortable with, or contact the coordinator(s) at theevergreenbikeshop@gmail.com to schedule an appointment.

Tools, Lubes, and Work Stands: Our shop is stocked with a full set of tools specifically designed for bicycle maintenance that anyone can use. Stands, work benches, sink, truing stands are all here for bicycle maintenance.

Spare Parts Room: The spare parts room operates similar to a free store, where everything within it is up for grabs. The stock of this room is dependent on donations from the community, and varies accordingly. Give what you can, take what you need.

Library and Computer: Not all of the volunteers have experience with bicycle maintenance, so we keep a bookshelf with a variety of different maintenance books to help you work through your bicycle problems. The computer in the main room is also open for looking up information.

Project Storage: Occasionally a project will get too big for the time allowed during a volunteer’s shift. Anyone can store their bikes/bike parts here for up to 2 weeks without being worked on and updated. All parts, frames, bicycles must have a tag that states the name of the owner, date last worked on, description of the item, and contact information for the owner. However, THE SHOP IS NOT LIABLE FOR THEFT! It’s a good idea to bring things home when possible. Projects left after 2 weeks become property of the shop, so do check in often.

Small Items Sales: The shop sells a variety of small parts to the community at a reasonable cost to get bikes out of storage and on the road. Our stock is relegated to small necessity parts such as cables and ball bearings as well as safety equipment. The shop does not sell frames, wheels, or other major components; we aren’t a competing business.
